The
bowl gougeshave big, open flutes for maximum chip clearance; they are designed for exceptional strength and stiffness. They are about 12-1/2″ overall length, with 7/1/2″ of flute.

The
spindle gougeshave shallow flutes for manueverability They are about 10″ overall length, with 6″ of flute.

Double-ended gougesoffer remarkable versatility.If you like standard grind for some applications and a fingernail grind for others, you can have both on the same tool.Just take it out of the handle and reverse it.This feature is great for turners who teach or demonstrate and travel with their tools. Double-ended tools are approximately 15-1/2″ long and have about 6-1/2″ of flute at each end.

Important Notes on Mastercut Gouges

Tool Sizes

Oneway’s tools are sized using the North American system. The size listed is the width at the outside of the tool, not the width of the flute. If you are used to tools sized on the European system (Crown, Sorby, etc.), order one size larger to get the size you want.

Handle Fit

While they are described in inch sizes, Mastercut tools are made using metric sized steel 3/8″ tools are actually 10mm, 1/2″ tools are actually 13mm & 5/8″ tools are actually 16.3mm.As a result, the tools may not fit into other manufacturer’s turning tool handles.

Sharpening

Mastercut gouges are not finish sharpened and may require additional grinding or honing before use.
