Cryogenic treatment
After the initial hardening, the process moves to cryogenic treatment. Cryogenic treatment rapidly cools steel to extremely low temperatures, reaching −190 °C using liquid nitrogen. In steel, austenite is a phase that is not fully hardened until it undergoes this cooling. By fully transforming austenite into martensite—a harder phase—the method results in increased hardness and toughness.
Following advanced treatments, the product’s heritage is reflected in every tool. Named after the founder, Mr. Vaclav Richter, these chisels exemplify our manufacturing standards. Unique materials, advanced heat treatment, and precision machining together produce an exceptional tool for woodworkers. Each chisel bears the RICHTER EXTRA trademark.
